We had a peach of a day at the Schnepf Farms Peach Festival today. I'll be honest, though. Zane couldn't have cared less about anything that we did today except for the time we spent with the goats. Oh, and the dog. And he didn't mind picking peaches. Or tasting samples. But his favorite part, by far, was playing with the goats.
We waited in a nice long line for our breakfast of peach pancakes.
Zane found a friend to play with while we waited. I didn't get a picture of it, but he gave the dog plenty of loves and kisses. Yum.
Oh, boy! These pancakes were so DELICIOUS.
We waited in another long line for the tasting tent. Zane and Clay passed the time by wandering through the field.
It was delightful goodness when we made it into the tasting tent. Zane loved every single sample I gave him, except the peach taffy. I guess that's an aquired texture.
Goats... The first thing we did when we walked into the goat pen was to open-mouth kiss this white goat. On the back, and the ears, and almost on the mouth. And by "we" I mean my sweet son. The father of a 3-year-old boy pointed to Zane and said to his son, "Look, that boy isn't afraid of the goats. You need to be like that little boy."
I told the dad, "My son is licking the goats. You probably don't want your son to be exactly like mine."
Zane showed his love to the next goat by trapping her in a love-choke-hold. He was trying to pull her head up so he could kiss her.
Since she wouldn't cooperate, he just leaned down and head-butted her (literally) instead.
This is Zane being "soft". It looks like he might just pick up that goat by the scruff of the neck one-handed.
By this point, Zane was so overwhelmed with excitement, he really couldn't contain himself. He was squealing and clapping and almost couldn't stand up.
Other adults in the goat pen were laughing at Zane's antics as he moved from animal to animal. I am surprised that my pictures didn't turn out blurry with how hard I was laughing at him.
After goat-herding (and licking and kissing and hugging), we went out to the U-Pick orchard and picked a good amount of fresh, ripe, pesticide-free peaches.
Even though Zane was pretty worn out by this time, he had fun getting in on the action.
He loved putting his own peaches into the bag. He even tried to pick up a few overripe peaches from the ground and put them in my bag. When I didn't let him, he put them in his mouth instead. Yumm-o.
Both Clay and Zane were tired and hot by the end of our adventure. The line was long to get our peaches weighed and paid for. But so worth it. The peaches we have tasted so far are so good and juicy.
It didn't take long before Zane passed out in the car. Queen Creek is over an hour away from us so he had a nice long ride to nap.
The farm has U-Pick apples and plums coming up next month. If it wasn't such a long drive, I would probably be there picking fruit every season. I can't wait to go back to the festival next year!
Wish I could've seen that little man in action in person! I bet that was pretty hilarious with the goats. I can just see him now. What a cutie. What a fun family activity too.
