The kids and I went to our new ward on our own for the first two Sundays. I was nervous the first week. I was nervous for Zane going to a new nursery. His old nursery leaders are some of our close friends and are some of Zane's favorite people who he has known for most of his life. I was nervous about starting over in another ward after having just been in the greatest ward of our married lives. I was nervous about church starting at 1:30 in the afternoon and I was apprehensive about the 12 mile drive to our new building.
I needn't have worried.
Zane went right into nursery without a second thought and had a blast. He bounded up to me after church and told me all about his new friends. He did tell me a few times that Aaron and Michelle (his nursery leaders) weren't there and he named a few of his old friends that weren't their either, but he had a great time and was so happy about it.
The drive to church is a pretty long one and the church is pretty remote. I kept stopping in the middle of the road on the way to church (yep, it's that remote) to take pictures to show Clay later. It's not too bad though. And even though church is late, it gives me plenty of time to get ready. I am going to need to use the crockpot every sunday since we don't get home until after 5:00 so send me your favorite crockpot recipes! I found out that the start time changes to 8:00 am in January. That's going to be rough for sure.
As far as the actual ward goes, I couldn't have asked for anything better. It is a great relief. I got there a little early to fill out paperwork and the Relief Society president saw what I was doing and invited us to sit with her family. She introduced me to as many people as she possibly could. My head is swimming with all of the amazing people I have met so far. I met a family who lives just down the street from us. We have already had a pizza dinner at the park with them. I met someone with a son exactly the same age as Zane and she has already invited Zane over for a playdate. We were invited to a bbq/swim party, and had a ward icecream social. Clay found out that there is an Elder's Quorum boating trip this month, followed by a paintball outing next month. And to top it all off, Elder Bednar is the sole speaker at stake conference this coming Sunday!
I know that all of these things are secondary to the actual gospel, but we really feel like this is exactly where we should be and are just icing on an already delicious cake.
Glad everything went so well. The pictures of the road look really in the boonies. We love to hear Pres Uchtdorf talk. You are so fortunate!
ReplyDeleteMom's worry a lot don't we? 12 miles isn't a bad drive considering your not in Utah right? Your ward sounds like a fun ward. I'm jealous. Oh and way to go supermom for braving it by yourself! I hear you there!
