Little Fishy

A sweet girl in our stake is teaching swim lessons in her backyard this summer. I thought it would be a great opportunity for Zane to get even more comfortable with the water. We did part of the first week on our own. Zane was slightly too independent for that, so we invited Lucy to come finish out the first week and all of our second week with us. It was so perfect to have her there. Zane loved taking turns with her. They clapped and cheered for eachother as they each went around the pool.

Zane learned (I use the term loosely) how to float, kick with a kickboard on his front and back, swim with big arms on his front and back while kicking. His "big arms" are currently "wheels on the bus go round and round in small circles in front of his chest" arms, but we are working on them! At the end of each lesson, Zane and Lucy took turns getting pool toys from off the steps while blowing bubbles. The last couple days of lessons, Zane went all the way under to get a toy off the bottom step. Then he "swam" about 5 feet from his teacher to the steps. It was so exciting!

Since we finished up swimming lessons this week, we have been to our own pool a few times and Zane is loving being able to swim around on his own, with a float belt. He hated the float belt before and just wanted to be held in the pool or play on the steps. He has the confidence now to kick himself around the pool and get wherever he wants to go! Even with "Wheels on the Bus Arms".
