Colorado: San Luis and Mesita

Blanca was quite an experience for Clay. He thought that he came from small towns having lived in Bluff and Monticello. Bluff has a population of about 500 and Monticello has a population of about 3,500. Blanca, where my grandparents live, has a population of about 200. The day we drove into Blanca, we headed on a family history tour of the San Luis Valley. My grandpa grew up in Mesita, CO which has a population of about 20. We went drove by the house where my grandpa grew up, and visited the Mesita Cemetery.

A very cool Japanese tombstone from 1923. There was a little family plot of them, all set up the same way.

San Luis is the oldest town in Colorado. My favorite part of San Luis was the gorgeous Catholic Church set up on the hill. We went through the life-sized Stations of the Cross on the path up to the church. I absolutely loved this church and it was a nice hike to get up to it.
