Brunch is Good

I was invited to a wonderful Mother's Day brunch last year for my first real celebration of the holiday. I thought it would be fun to hold one for some friends this year.

We had some delicious baked french toast, yogurt parfaits, muffins, and a potato-bacon brunch casserole. Everything turned out really yummy. I was going to get some pictures during the party but I was too busy having fun to take any.

Can you believe these flowers are made out of napkins!?  I have them above my windows too, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave them up there as a valance-ey kind of thing for a while.  I love them.

The only things I didn't have just laying around the house for this tablescape were the plastic table cloth (dollar store, $1.00), the weird goblets (Savers, $0.40 each), and the glass vases (Savers, $1.00 each).  Everything else was scavenged from somewhere around the house.

Since the glasses were from Savers, there weren't enough of one style for the whole table, so I mixed it up a little bit. I served a fuzzy navel mocktail to drink. Since there was no alcohol, that meant it was just a mixture of apricot nectar and orange juice, garnished with an orange wedge. It sounds fancy to give it a cool name though!!!

I climbed on the couch to get a shot of the whole room mostly put together.  The food is missing from the table, and later I put the kids place settings on the small blue table.

Zane had to eat his breakfast outside since I took his highchair off of his seat. He didn't seem to mind, though!

It was fun having friends over from my last ward, my current ward, and wives of Clay's schoolmates. We just ate and talked and ate some more while the kids played and watched Toy Story 3.

My friend Bri stuck around for a little bit after the brunch so Ashlyn and Zane could play a little longer. They climbed up on the couch together.

Zane said, "Hey, You're pretty cute!
Ashlyn said, "You have berries on your face."

Both moms said, "Can you give kisses?"
Zane said, "Pucker up!"
Ashlyn said, "Really?"

But then they both went for it.

And Zane said, "Oh no, her dad's coming... I gotta get outta here."
Ashlyn said, "It's ok. He won't mind. We are just babies. In fifteen years you'd better run, though."
